Laybuy Partners With Man City to Offer First ‘Buy Now, Pay Later’ in Premier League Football

Payment provider Laybuy has become the first ‘buy now, pay later’ provider to enter top-flight football, signing a multi-year regional partnership deal with Manchester City in the UK, Australia and New Zealand.

Laybuy’s provides simple and transparent solutions which help consumers and businesses transact safely and securely to spread costs into six manageable and interest-free weekly repayments.

As the new season kicks in, Laybuy will celebrate the partnership with a new ‘Switch Play on How You Pay’ campaign featuring a host of exciting fan activations and the opportunity to reconnect with Manchester City Legends as the brand extends extra time on payments to extra time on the pitch for some of the Club’s most iconic legends.

The first-of-a-kind partnership is designed to let dedicated fans support their club to the fullest as the brands explore opportunities to integrate the Laybuy ‘buy now, pay later’ payment option into club platforms including City’s retail offering.

Commenting on the partnership, Gary Rohloff, Co-Founder and Managing Director at Laybuy, said:

“This is the first step of many in our bigger ambition to enable fans to fuel their love for their football clubs with innovative new payment options.” He continues, “This partnership perfectly reflects Laybuy and the Club’s shared values in ensuring football is as accessible as possible; keeping the community spirit alive by letting fans support their club to the fullest and stress-free. We’re excited for what the future holds.”

Manchester City FC is an English Premier League club initially founded in 1880 as St Mark’s West Gorton. It officially became Manchester City FC in 1894 and has since then gone onto win the European Cup Winners’ Cup, six League Championship titles, including four Premier League titles (2012, 2014, 2018, 2019), and six FA Cups. Manchester City FC is one of nine clubs comprising the City Football Group and counts New York City FC and Melbourne City FC among its sister clubs.

Stephan Cieplik, VP Director of Partnerships APAC for Manchester City, commented: “Laybuy has quickly established a strong reputation in New Zealand and Australia and it is continuing to develop and grow into new markets. We’re looking forward to working with each other using our shared belief in technology and innovation to bring our partnership to life.”

Under manager Pep Guardiola, one of the most highly decorated managers in world football, the Club plays its domestic and UEFA Champions League home fixtures at the Etihad Stadium, a spectacular 55,000 seat arena that City have called home since 2003.
