Klarna Taps Clarity AI For Sustainability Data

Klarna has turned to sustainability tech platform Clarity AI for environmental information to help shoppers make more conscious buying decisions.

The Swedish payments group is using Clarity AI’s data and capabilities to promote environmentally conscious brands to 150 million shoppers.

Following the partnership, Klarna will first feature ways to shop consciously when purchasing electronics across brands in 22 countries. Clarity AI-powered information on environmental efforts feature as brand badges.

By 2040, the technology industry is expected to produce around 14 per cent of global emissions. And according to the Q3 2022 Klarna Shopping Pulse, 62 per cent of US shoppers say that sustainability when shopping for electronics is important to them.

The study also showed that two thirds of Americans think it’s important that brands actively combat climate change. Or that they use recycled or sustainable materials in their products.

Angel Agudo, head of product at Clarity AI, said: “With more than two million daily transactions processed by Klarna, this initiative can have a significant collective effect, showcasing the scale and potential that Clarity AI can power and unleash as we make our sustainability metrics accessible to consumers.”

Salah Said, head of sustainability at Klarna, said the two companies are empowering consumers to ‘vote with their wallet’ for a more sustainable world.

“In 2021, Klarna introduced the CO2e emissions tracker, which brought to life one of the largest awareness efforts on carbon footprints ever made. Now, we are taking it one step further by providing Klarna’s more than 150 million shoppers with reliable and transparent metrics for electronics brands.”

“We were looking for a partner that not only provides clear and independent data, but also offers a seamless technical integration. As a digital-native tech company, Clarity AI was a natural choice for us. We speak the same language; it’s a great match.”

Clarity AI’s platform

Clarity AI analyses more than 50,000 companies, 320,000 funds, 198 countries and 188 local governments. It delivers data and analytics for investing, consumer research, corporate research and reporting for sustainability regulations worldwide. It has offices in North America, Europe and the Middle East.

Last month, the platform, revealed discrepancies in emissions data reported by legacy data providers. It noted providers have discrepancies of more than 20 per cent in 13 per cent of direct emissions data.

Earlier this year, the company was also named a leader in Forrester’s New Wave ESG Ratings, Data, And Analytics, Q3 2022 report.
