January Wanderlust – Fintech Reveals Where Can Brits Get the Most for Their Money

Whilst Brexit has ensured the pound has depreciated in value around the world, it’s not all bad news, there’s still some winter fun in the Sun to be had, where a glass of Sangria will cost you half what you’d have paid for it twelve months ago.

Research from fintech InstaReM has ranked the top ten most desirable destinations based on strength of the pound and hours of winter Sun, and at the top of the list is Argentina. Holidaymakers can enjoy a whopping fourteen hours and thirteen minutes of daylight, to drink the best red wine, dance the tango. And they’ll be doing it for about half of what they’d have spent in January last year, as the Argentinian Peso has depreciated a whopping 46% against the pound.

Sri Lanka has grown in popularity this year and the train ride from Ella to Kandy is supposedly one of the best routes to take in the world – made even better by the £4 ticket prices. Brazil and Chile, which are both currently enjoying 13 hours of sunlight also offer you bang for your buck. The Brazilian Real has lost 7% and the Chilean Peso dropped 5% against the pound since January 2018, which is good news if you’re a  fan of the Chilean street snack Empanada which you can now pick up for under a pound. Lucky number seven was South Africa (6%) where you can drink the blues away in its thirteen hours of daylight with a beer – the average pint price is a steal at £1.55.

Don’t like saving money and don’t care about sunshine? Then a trip to Iceland could be right up your street with just over five hours of daylight being on show for January.

Prajit Nanu CEO at InstaReM said:

“They say to travel is to live, but living isn’t easy when you’re having to scrape the pennies together in January. That’s why it pays to be smart and know where in the world your money can stretch the furthest. This year, the smart money is going on holiday to  Argentina where you can enjoy double the spending power.”
