Contis facilitates access to crisis loans with instant-issue cards for the vulnerable

Payments provider Contis is rolling out an instant-issue card programme to allow quick and safe access to money during the COVD-19 crisis. Through Contis’ community banking division, credit union members can now get a crisis loan approved and issued on a contactless card in minutes. No need to wait or handle cash.

The use of cash has plummeted in recent weeks as retailers shift to contactless payments and consumers move online. Instant-issue cards provide a secure solution for members. Credit unions also benefit by holding less cash on premises.

Contis’ community banking arm, Engage, is working closely with 150 credit union partners to support the underbanked and financially excluded. New Engage current accounts can now be approved instantly, with accompanying debit cards delivered in two working days.

Engage customers can also add a connected card to their account for trusted friends and family. Ideal to shop for a vulnerable person who’s self-isolating.

Geoff Leech, MD of Engage, said: “We’re doing everything we can to help vulnerable people at this difficult time. The financially excluded rely most on cash and are hardest hit in the current climate. Quick, safe and secure access to money is essential, so we have rolled out a range of measures to get contactless cards in people’s hands as quickly as possible.”
