Challenger Banks on the Money as Fintech Dominates LinkedIn’s Top Startups List for 2019

LinkedIn, the world’s largest professional network, has announced its third annual Top Startups list, ranking the 25 most sought-after startups in the UK that LinkedIn members would like to work for.

The list highlights the continued strength of fintech innovation in the country as Monzo takes the number one spot for the third year running. The incredible annual growth of this British success story shows no signs of slowing down. Meanwhile, digital start-up rival Revolut gains ground by moving up to second place and Starling Bank is hot on their heels, jumping 14 places to reach number four.

These challenger banks are in good company as over half of the list is occupied by financial startups and six of the top ten spots are taken by brands in the fintech industry. The list highlights the continued expansion of the sector as eight of these financial startups are new to the list, including Tide Business Banking and Moneybox.

Fintech companies fill over half of the top ten places and 13 of the total list of 25

Formula E has made its debut on the list, possibly as a result of the “David Attenborough effect” influencing professionals to seek out roles at eco-conscious companies. Babylon Health, offering accessible and affordable healthcare through smartphones, has jumped seven spots to number five in this year’s list as concerns over the overworked NHS continues to be front of mind with the public.

The ranking is informed by the millions of actions, including job searches and company page views, taken by LinkedIn’s 645+ million members around the world, including more than 27 million UK professionals. It reveals the startups where UK professionals most want to work.

This year’s top ten most sought-after startups in the UK are as follows (*new entries):

“Our Top Startups list shows that the fintech industry continues to thrive and displays no signs of slowing down anytime soon. It’s incredible to see a startup able to maintain the top spot for three years in such an ever-changing environment  and continue expanding at such a pace.

It’s also fantastic to see the sector developing and new fintech startups entering this year’s list, alongside other fresh entries such as Formula E. It’s certainly no surprise to us that LinkedIn members are applying for jobs at a raft of such innovative, exciting companies.”

Libby Townsend, Chief People Officer at Monzo Bank, commented:

“Our employees are essential to Monzo’s continued success and we are delighted to have topped Linkedin’s Top Startups list for the third year running.

Over the last year the number of employees at Monzo has increased from 400 to over 1300. They are based in our offices in London, Cardiff, Los Angeles, Las Vegas and remotely all over the world and help make money work for over 2.8m customers every day.”
