Understanding the African banking market

Only about 30 per cent of companies successfully navigate the digital revolution. According to the 2024 edition of the African Banking Digital Transformation Report, 76 per cent of banks rank digital transformation as either their top priority or among their top three priorities, while the remaining 24 per cent still recognise its importance. This highlights the complexity of adapting to new behaviors and expectations in a rapidly changing landscape.

Staying abreast of industry trends is crucial for banking professionals to effectively manage these changes and achieve successful digital transformation. Incremental, cost-effective, and sustainable approaches are key, focusing on outcomes such as new products, improved processes, and use cases that build capabilities, business value, and buy-in for the transformation.

Looking ahead, the digital banking sector is expected to continue its trajectory of growth and innovation. Key trends include personalisation, the rise of neobanks, the integration of AI and machine learning, blockchain exploration, advancements in cybersecurity, open banking ecosystems, sustainability efforts, digital identity solutions, and a focus on regulatory compliance and data privacy.
